Springfield, IL – Today, Illinois State Representative John M. Cabello (R-Machesney Park) joined gun owners at the State Capitol for Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day (IGOLD). The day is an annual event established for Illinois’ responsible gun owners to celebrate and advocate for their right to keep and bear arms.
“IGOLD is always one of the most important advocacy days of the spring legislative session, especially as the Illinois Democrats continue their extreme quest to strip law-abiding citizens of our constitutional rights,” said Cabello. “The crowd we saw today is a perfect representation of the millions of Illinois gun owners who responsibly practice their right to keep and bear arms daily. This group is too often ignored despite their desire to prioritize safety and education while keeping themselves, their families, and their property safe.”
Cabello continued: “Too often, responsible gun owners, like those we saw at the Capitol today, are held responsible for the thugs, criminals, and felons who commit heinous acts of violence with illegally acquired firearms. As a law enforcement officer, I see the significant contrast between the 2nd amendment supporters at IGOLD and the individuals who use firearms unlawfully to wreak havoc on our communities.”
Cabello finished: “I am very thankful for the IGOLD participants who made the trip to Springfield to responsibly advocate for their right to keep and bear arms and fight the continual infringement of gun owner rights by way of Illinois Democrats. I will continue fighting for the rights of gun owners for as long as I serve in the Illinois Statehouse.”
