SPRINGFIELD – State Representative John M. Cabello (R-Machesney Park) is announcing his legislative agenda for the 104th General Assembly. His legislation seeks to restore law and order, protect taxpayers, and defend the Second Amendment rights of law abiding gun owners. His agenda includes major reforms to repeal numerous failed policies, ease the property tax burden, and hold public officials accountable.
“Illinois is broken because of weak leadership and bad policies,” said Rep. Cabello. “These bills put power back in the hands of law-abiding citizens, hold politicians accountable, and stop Illinois taxpayers from footing the bill for illegal immigration, corruption, and anti-gun laws.”
Rep. Cabello’s legislative package includes:
- Repealing the TRUST Act – A bill (HB1029) to allow and require law enforcement to work with federal immigration officials, stopping Illinois from being a sanctuary state for illegal immigrants who cost taxpayers billions and make communities less safe.
- Defending the Second Amendment – Two bills: one to “Void the FOID” (HB1067) and another to repeal Illinois’ unconstitutional “assault weapons” ban – aka the PICA law (HB1040) , ensuring that law-abiding gun owners are not punished for exercising their rights.
- Giving Property Taxpayers More Time to Appeal – Legislation (HB1846) to extend the property tax appeal window from 30 days to 60 days, giving homeowners and businesses a fighting chance to challenge unfair tax assessments and afford to stay in their communities.
- Holding Public Officials Accountable – A bill (HB1039) that requires public officials to wear body cameras to prevent corruption, bribery, and backroom deals that waste taxpayer money.
- Lowering the Legal Drinking Age to 18 (With a Parent or Guardian Present) – A proposal (HB1019) that brings Illinois in line with Wisconsin’s law, helping small pubs and restaurants grow while recognizing the rights of legal adults.
“I am proud to continue working this common-sense agenda and to stand with law-abiding gun owners, hardworking taxpayers, and anyone sick of corruption and out-of-control government. It’s time to take our state back.”
Rep. Cabello’s legislative package is now under consideration in the 104th General Assembly. More information regarding his filings can be found at RepCabello.com.
