SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Representative John M. Cabello (R-Machesney Park) has taken steps to defend the rights of law-abiding gun owners by introducing two major pieces of legislation: one to “Void the FOID” (HB1067) and another to repeal Illinois’ unconstitutional “assault weapons” ban aka the PICA law (HB1040).

“For too long, Illinois lawmakers have targeted law-abiding gun owners instead of criminals,” said Rep. Cabello. “My bills will restore our Second Amendment rights, repeal unconstitutional gun bans, and put an end to bureaucratic overreach that punishes responsible citizens.”

Void the FOID – This bill (HB1067) eliminates the Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card, which unfairly forces Illinois residents to get state permission just to exercise their constitutional right to bear arms. Illinois is one of the few states with this requirement. Cabello was the first to file the legislation in the xx General Assembly and has refiled the proposal in each of his terms since.

Repeal the PICA Law – The “Protect Illinois Communities Act” (PICA) bans commonly owned firearms and criminalizes law-abiding gun owners. Cabello’s bill (HB1040) would repeal this unconstitutional gun grab and restore Illinoisans’ right to own the firearms of their choice.

“These gun control laws do nothing to stop criminals or to make our communities safer—they only strip rights from responsible gun owners,” Cabello continued. “I believe in the Constitution, so I believe in the right to keep and bear arms. I won’t allow radical politicians to try and take that away.”

Cabello’s legislation is now under consideration in the 104th General Assembly.
