ROCKFORD, IL – State Representative John M. Cabello released the following statement in response to Governor Pritzker’s testimony before Congress today:
“Governor Pritzker appeared in front of Congress and acted like everything is fine in Illinois. It’s not. His sanctuary state policies have turned Illinois into an oasis for illegal immigrants — and taxpayers are stuck with the bill.
“Since 2022, we’ve spent over $3 billion on benefits for people who are here illegally — while our seniors, veterans, and working families get pushed to the back of the line. He’s doubling down on handing out free healthcare, housing, and food to illegal immigrants while ignoring the real needs of Illinois citizens.
“Illinois law enforcement isn’t even allowed to work with federal immigration officials to remove dangerous criminals. Public safety has taken a backseat to woke policies and political pandering.
“Governor Pritzker also lied when confidently stating that: ‘We [Illinois] don’t participate in abuse of power.’ I want to remind the Governor of his actions to keep Illinois under emergency orders during COVID-19 for an unnecessarily long period of time – totally abusing his power.
“The migrant crisis in Illinois is no accident. Pritzker, Johnson, and Illinois’ Democrat leaders have invited it — and now they’re blaming everyone but themselves.
“While the Governor runs around the country playing billionaire presidential candidate, Illinois families are stuck dealing with the mess he made. It’s simple: Pritzker’s failed leadership is hurting our state, and Illinoisans must demand better.”
