State Representative John M. Cabello on Madigan’s Sentencing

ILLINOIS – State Representative John M. Cabello (R-Machesney Park) released the following statement in response to Former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan’s sentencing hearing to determine his punishment following federal conviction on corruption charges earlier this year.

“Michael Madigan didn’t just betray the public’s trust—he doubled down and lied under oath to cover it up. The courtroom evidence is clear: he orchestrated corrupt schemes, enriched his inner circle, and then tried to spin fairy tales from the witness stand. It would be tough for any sentence to reflect Madigan’s calculated deceit against the taxpayer. I hope the entirety of his trial sends a message to every corrupt politician watching: The people of Illinois deserve better—not the corrupt cesspool Madigan and his cronies created.

“Sadly, there are currently 57 state lawmakers, including those from the Rockford area, who received funding from or maintain ties with Madigan. Another reason that Illinois needs real ethics reform now.”
