Illinois Minimum Wage Increase

Starting January 1, 2025, Illinois workers will see the final scheduled increase in the state’s minimum wage. This increase marks the end of a six-year plan started in 2019 that calls for workers aged 18 and older to see a minimum wage increase from $14 to $15 per hour. The plan calls for workers under 18 to see an increase from $12 to $13 per hour.

In Chicago, the minimum wage is currently set at $16.20 per hour. Unlike the state rate, Chicago’s minimum wage adjusts annually based on the Consumer Price Index or a fixed 2.5% increase, whichever is lower. No plans for additional statewide increases beyond 2025 have been announced.
